Joyner's Campground Music

I am so excited about Methodist Night at Joyner's Campground on July 24.

Let us practice on Monday, July 15, at 6:30 in Davis Hall at Somerville First (202 S. East Street, Somerville 38068).

Let us also practice on Wednesday, July 24, at 5:30 in the Tabernacle at Joyner's Campground.  Remember that pot luck starts at 6:15, so bring a dish.  Also, don't forget to bring your item for the Food Pantry.

We'll be singing "In Christ Alone" and "Just a Little Talk with Jesus."  You can find the sheet music and sound files at the links below:

A few new pieces of music for you to enjoy over the summer . . .

Thanks so much for all your dedication and hard work this year!  I hope you find your free Wednesday evenings refreshing.

Please remember to gather in the choir room at 10:15 on Sundays so we can go over music.

Here's a recording of another Methodist choir (about our size!) singing "In Christ Alone."  Enjoy!

What do you think about this one called "The Yearning"?  It could work for Advent/Christmas or just about any Sunday.

Our next Wednesday practice is August 22!

See you on Sunday!

Easter 2013

Here's the music for Easter Sunday:

He Is Not Here:  this is the full version.  Remember, we're not singing the middle "fugue" part.

I Will Sing of My Redeemer

Hallelujah Chorus

See you on Sunday!

New Music is on the Way!

Here are a few new titles on the way:

O Church Arise I can see this as a lovely Pentecost anthem.

I Will Sing of My Redeemer would be wonderful during Eastertide or any Sunday of Ordinary Time.

Return to God is a heartfelt plea suitable for Lent.  The lush harmonies are challenging, but so, so beautiful.

While I was looking around, I found this exquisite Kyrie from Memorial which was written in remembrance of 9/11.  The text is the kyrie which is simple plea for mercy--Lord, have mercy; Christ, have mercy; Lord, have mercy)--but the setting is dense, lush, and challenging.  I think we could do it with advance practice.  The question is:  would we want to tackle it?  Let me know what you think.

Here's another Kyrie, in three parts, which includes Dona Nobis Pacem.

Here's a Kyrie by Bradley Ellingboe that is just beautiful and has a lovely organ part, too!  It's less dirgy than others I've heard.

Happy New Year!
